MONOWAI – The story of a survey ship

As noted on the home page, I started to write the story of HMNZS MONOWAI (A06) with a working title of ‘No Sterner Coast’ – building upon the excellent history of the RNZN Hydrographic Service 1949-1968 by J. O’Ross, ‘This Stern Coast’.

I had access, as CO MONOWAI to the Reports of Proceedings files. However, it was a struggle with duties in the ship and I never completed it (and doubtless never will), passing the task to the late Lt Cdr David Price.

David Price sought contributions and memoirs from some former members of MONOWAI’s Ships Company many of which have been included in his work. The recollections of Cdr K J Robertson RNZN covering the early years are contained here.

My incomplete draft with early drafts from Lt Cdr Price’s work. Follow on subsequent pages
